Mizoram Police marks 54 years of service with Raising Day celebrations

Aizawl: The 54th anniversary of Mizoram Police Raising Day was celebrated on Wednesday at the police headquarters, marking more than five decades of service, discipline, and commitment to public safety.The programme, held at GS Arya Mess in Aizawl, recalled the origins of the force on Jan 21, 1972, when the then Mizo district of Assam became a Union Territory and the Assam Police contingent was reorganised as the Mizoram Police. The date was formally adopted as Raising Day, with IJ Verma appointed as the first inspector general of police.The celebrations began with the Mizoram Police anthem and a performance by the Mizoram Police Unity Band, followed by speeches, presentations, and the conferment of awards recognising courage, professional excellence, and leadership.Among the honours presented was the DGP’s cash reward for bravery, awarded to driver Lalremsanga and constable T Lalhruaitluanga of Saitual DEF for their courage during a major NDPS operation.
