Aizawl: Four suspects have been arrested by South Mizoram’s Lunglei district police in connection with a highway robbery that took place on the Lunglei-Silchar route on Sept 30 night.
The victims, Mongkhoisu, 62, from Prabrarang, Rakhine state of Myanmar, and his local interpreter, Teatei Mong Tongchangya, 45, from Longpuighat, Lawngtlai district, were travelling in a pickup truck when they were intercepted by five masked men armed with pistols and knives on the highway near Zotuitlang and Haulawng.
The robbers reportedly stopped the vehicle, broke the windshield, and stole cash amounting to Rs 10 lakh, along with documents, and a mobile phone. Driver Sujit Chakma was robbed of his cellphone and Rs 5,000.
Lunglei police arrested four suspects — Mithun Chakma (37), Subaranta (40), Sandip Kumar Chakma (21), and Sujit Chakma (36), all residents of Lawngtlai district.
Police suspect that driver Chakma may have been involved in planning the robbery, and further investigation is on.
