DIPHU: The body of a missing polling official was found in a nude and decomposed condition in a remote hilly area of Assam’s Karbi Anglong district on Saturday, officials said.
The body of Cornelius Kindu was discovered in the Rongwongwey area by locals, who informed the authorities, according to news agency PTI.
Kindu, who was serving as the third officer at polling station number 19 at Sarpo Kathar LP School, had been reported missing since April 9. He had left the station during the assembly elections, stating that he was feeling unwell while voting was still underway.
Officials said the cause of death is yet to be ascertained.
A search operation had been launched after Kindu failed to reach his residence in Diphu, but it initially yielded no results. Drones were also deployed to trace him in the hilly and densely forested terrain.
