SILCHAR: A resident of Bangladesh’s Habiganj district, who had been missing for the past seven years and was found in Tripura a few months ago, was repatriated to his native country via the India-Bangladesh border at Sutarkandi in Assam’s Karimganj district on Saturday.

Sampad Ranjan Roy was a professor at a college in Bangladesh and he reportedly has some mental issues.

His cousin, Ajoy Kumar Roy from Karimganj, said Sampad’s family chanced upon his picture and videos on Facebook a few months ago after which they came to know that he was in India (Tripura).

Sampad’s family members then contacted Ajoy, who got in touch with an organisation called Robin Hood Army. It contacted some people in Tripura and found out about Sampad. Thereafter, members of the organisation went to Tripura in April and found Sampad in Sanicherra of North Tripura district. Sampad was brought to Karimganj and his treatment was done at his (Ajoy’s) house, Ajoy said.

On Saturday, security officials took Sampad to Sutarkandi at the Indo-Bangladesh international border following which he was handed over to Bangladesh security personnel on the completion of the necessary legal formalities. It was, however, not clear whether Sampad had come to India legally or illegally.
