Guwahati: Four Bangladeshi nationals, including a minor, have been detained for illegally entering India, police said on Monday. A broker who allegedly helped them was arrested in connection with the case.
The border branch of police commissionerate, along with a team of Dispur police station, detained these persons on Sunday evening following credible intelligence inputs received. The apprehended persons have been identified as Munni Akhtar (22), hailing from Bangladesh’s Narail district, and Moor Salim Seikh (32) and Mukta Seikh (25) from Bangladesh’s Bagherghat district.
“During enquiry it was found that they crossed over to India illegally without any valid documents in search of jobs after being enticed by brokers. They started on Friday and reached Guwahati on Saturday,” a statement issued by Assam Police read.
Police have arrested the broker, identified as Mohammed Akkash Ali (32), a resident of Barpeta district. Ali works as a taxi driver and was residing in Guwahati’s Dispur area in a rented house. “A case has been registered against Ali in Dispur PS,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, deputy commissioner of police (DCP) (East) Tabu Ram Pegu said the detainees have been sent to the border branch of police commissionerate, and necessary legal procedures, including deportation formalities are underway.
