AIZAWL: Mizoram CM
Zoramthanga on Thursday said the state government would not be a mute spectator of the turn of events and violence in Manipur and is prepared to safeguard the 'Zo' people in the neighbouring state.
On his instagram account, Zoramthanga wrote that he has issued instructions to his home minister Lalchamliana and home commissioner H Lalengmawia to hold meetings to take up issues of the safety of "our people" in Manipur.
The CM said he had a long telephone conversation with Union home minister
Amit Shah and the latter expressed concern over the sufferings of innocent civilians in Manipur due to the clashes and that additional CAPF would be deployed to maintain law and order.
Zoramthanga also dialled his Manipur counterpart,
N Biren Singh. "I believe that our talk (with Biren Singh) will yield positive results. We also agreed to make a joint statement to ensure the safety of the innocent people and our brothers," he said and urged people to maintain peace and tranquility. The Kukis in Manipur are Zo kindred tribes who share ethnic ties with the Mizos.
"I am deeply pained by the recent happening in the beautiful and diversified state of Manipur, a lifelong neighbour," Zoramthanga said on his official twitter handle.
