IMPHAL: Five youths, including the son of Manipur sports minister N Biren Singh, surrendered to police following Sunday's gunning down of a student in the Ghari area of Imphal West district.
Irom Roger (21), a Class XII student of a Bangalore institute, was driving a car near Imphal airport when some unidentified persons in a jeep overtook him and fired at him.
A resident of Wangkhei Angom Leikai in Imphal East, Roger died while he was being taken to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences.

Sources said the sports minister's son, Nongthombam Ajay Meetei (27), and four others surrendered to police on Sunday. They added that an M20 pistol with six bullets and a jeep were seized from them.
Locals from Wangkhei Angom Leikai formed a joint action committee (JAC) to protest against the killing of Roger. On Monday, they submitted a memorandum to chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh seeking punishment of the accused. Fearing trouble, the district administration has tightened security in and around the state assembly.
