Guwahati: Lt-Gen Rana Pratap Kalita took over as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the prestigious Eastern Command, which is headquartered at Fort William in Kolkata, on Tuesday.
Defence PRO Lt Col Sumit K Sharma said Kalita assumed office after paying homage to the martyrs at Vijay Smarak followed by a guard of honour at Garrison Battalion Parade Ground.
Prior to this, he was Director General of Manpower Planning and Personnel Services in IHQ of MoD (Army) in New Delhi. He was commissioned into 9 Kumaon in 1984 and has extensive operational experience in Sri Lanka, J&K and the northeast. TNN
