Losses in upscale mall may run into crores

Guwahati: A fire at Swagota Square Mall has caused significant damage, with initial estimates suggesting losses running into several crores. The mall, known for its premium selection of international and Indian brands, was a popular shopping destination for fashion, beauty, and lifestyle products.A female employee of the mall told TOI, “The mall is a prime choice for a section of people in the city. There were around 300 employees in the mall.” She expressed concern over the future of the employees, stating, “The incident has now put a question mark for 300 employees as they were running their families by working in the mall.”The cause of the fire remains unknown, and the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has announced that a full assessment will be conducted once the fire is completely extinguished and the area is deemed safe.The employee added, “It was not the fault of the employees. Who knows how the fire broke out? I hope that the mall authority will think about the employees also.”
