Liquor consignment meant for Army CSD seized near Misamari rly station
Guwahati: A joint operation by Assam Police, the Tezpur-based Gajraj Intelligence Unit, and Army authorities on Friday led to the seizure of a large consignment of liquor near Misamari railway station.
Officials said around 150 cases, originally meant for sale through CSD outlets catering to Army personnel, were intercepted while being moved out of the Canteen Stores Depot in Misamari.
Acting on precise intelligence inputs, the team stopped the consignment before it could be diverted into unauthorised channels.
A police source described the operation as “a coordinated effort to safeguard the integrity of military supply chains”. The source told TOI, “The liquor was meant for CSD distribution. Diverting it into private hands not only violates regulations but also undermines the system meant for serving soldiers.”
The seizure underscores growing vigilance and inter-agency cooperation in curbing illegal activities around military supply depots. Officials said the attempted smuggling was well-planned, involving insiders familiar with depot procedures. The swift interception, however, prevented the consignment from entering the black market.
An FIR has been registered at Misamari Police Station, and investigations are underway to identify the network behind the diversion attempt. Authorities indicated that more arrests could follow as the probe expands.
Security agencies stressed that such operations are crucial to maintaining discipline in supply chains and ensuring that restricted goods reach their intended beneficiaries. The successful bust has sent a strong message that attempts to exploit military logistics for profit will be met with strict enforcement.
