Army flags off bike expedition to commemorate 1962 war & Battle of Walong
Itanagar: The Indian Army flagged off a motorcycle expedition from Mipi in Dibang Valley district, an official said Saturday. The expedition aims to honour the valiant soldiers who fought the 1962 India-China war and to commemorate the Battle of Walong, defence spokesperson Lt Col Mahendra Rawat said. The expedition team, comprising 10 personnel from Army Spear Corps and 10 civilians, have two scheduled halts at Roing in Lower Dibang Valley district and Hayuliang in Anjaw district. The riders will pass through the Mishmi ranges and cross the pristine Dibang and Lohit Valley, before the expedition culminates at Meshai in Anjaw district. The defence spokesperson said the ride, tracing a historic path through the scenic landscapes of Arunachal Pradesh, will conclude at the historic Walong War Memorial on Nov 11. Each halt en route will be an opportunity for the riders to connect with the local communities, highlighting the strength, resilience and solidarity that define the spirit of the region and to promote national integration. The expedition symbolises the Army's commitment to fostering unity and promoting adventure tourism in border areas, the official said. The team started the journey on Friday in the presence of Dao (div) GOC Major General VS Deshpande, MLA (Anini) Mopi Mihu and officials of the state govt.
