Aizawl: Jamil R Swer, deputy director, directorate of census operations, Mizoram, on Tuesday said the first phase of the Census of India, 2027 — the Houselisting and Housing Operation (HLO) — will be conducted across Mizoram from April 16 to May 15.
Swer, speaking during a presentation on Census 2027 strategy at a one-day state level conference of principal census officers, said the facility for self-enumeration for the first phase would be available from April 1 to 15. He outlined the questions to be covered during the HLO phase and the digital tools to be deployed, noting that the upcoming Census would be the first Census in India to be conducted fully in digital mode. He also sought active cooperation from stakeholder departments including the rural development department, ULBs, forest department and the information and public relations department for smooth conduct of the exercise.
Shivam, assistant director of the directorate of census operations, briefed the conference on the functioning of digital platforms, including the Census Management and Monitoring System (CMMS) portal, the Houselisting and Housing Census (HLBC) system, mobile applications and a monitoring dashboard to track progress in real time.
Lalrohlua, joint secretary of the state general administration department, presented an overview of preparatory work, including appointment of census functionaries, their roles and responsibilities, district-wise training schedules and the roadmap for forthcoming phases.
The conference was chaired by the principal secretary and state nodalofficer for Census of India, 2027 Sudhir Kumar. It was attended by all deputy commissioners and the municipal commissioner of Aizawl Municipal Corporation, designated as principal census officers in their jurisdictions, along with officers from the general administration department, the nodal department for the Census.
