GUWAHATI: The second annual Tarun Duarah Memorial Oil India Award for the year 2011 was declared on Tuesday by Gauhati Artists' Guild. This year recipients are Anil Das and Ramesh Chandra Ghosh, who have been selected in the visual art and performance art category.
The award, constituted with the help of OIL India Limited, is a fitting tribute to noted artist late Tarun Duarah, who was a pioneer in the field of modern art and responsible for making this genre of art available to the art connoisseurs in the state. The award which was formed in 2008 is given to artists who have made immense contribution in the field of art and culture. Earlier recipients of the award were Jahnu Baruah, Neel Pawan Baruah and Ramen Baruah.
This year, noted cinema and theatre artiste Anil Das, has been conferred with the prestigious award in the performance art category. Das was an actor both in the theatre and film circuits, a make-up artist and secretary of Indian Professional Theatre Association (IPTA).
Ramesh Chandra Ghosh has been conferred with the award in the visual art category. Ghosh, a noted artist, also held an important post in the directorate of information and public relation under the government of Assam. He too worked as a teacher in the deaf and dumb school.
The award recipients will be given a trophy, a citation and one lakh rupees each.
