Himanta questions Indira’s decisions on PoK & Chicken’s Neck Corridor

Guwahati: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday expressed his concern about historical decisions, stating that if former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi were present today, he would question her decisions regarding Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) during the Shimla Agreement and the missed opportunity to expand the Chicken's Neck corridor by 100 km after India's victory in the 1971 war.During a press briefing, Sarma said Congress lacks the authority to scrutinise Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decisions concerning the ceasefire agreement with Pakistan, which both nations have announced.He raised specific questions about the past, saying, "Our army had won the 1971 war. Had Indira Gandhi been alive today, I would have asked her why she allowed the creation of an Islamic nation. Why did she not take back PoK in the Shimla Agreement? Why didn't she expand the Chicken's Neck corridor by negotiating for 100 more miles from Bangladesh?"In support of the present ceasefire with Pakistan, Sarma said Operation Sindoor's primary aim was to neutralise and dismantle terrorist networks, which was successfully accomplished. He further elaborated that Pakistan's subsequent retaliation on behalf of terrorists was met with India's strong response, leading to Pakistan's surrender when they recognised the potential consequences of continued aggression.
