Drug peddler nabbed in city with 214g of heroin

Guwahati: Special Task Force (STF) of Assam police late on Monday night apprehended a drug peddler during a raid conducted in the city's Navagraha Hills area. The accused, identified as Sona Miya (40), hails from Kokila village in Assam's Bongaigaon district. The operation was led by STF inspector Kapil Pathak. Speaking to TOI, the officer said the accused had been operating secretly in the city for the past year.The officer also added that the accused was staying in a rented room at KK Road in Navagraha Hills and the house was owned by Vijay Singh. "He is a notorious drug peddler, who has been operating secretly in the city over the past year. During the search, we recovered substantial amounts of narcotic substances and few other items from his possession," the officer added.During the raid, 214.81 grams of suspected heroin packed in 16 soap box cases were recovered from his possesion, along with cash amounting to Rs 1,06,700 and a mobile phone.The officer added that following the arrest, a case has been registered at the Latasil police station under Sections 21 (B) and 27 (A) of the NDPS Act, 1985. The STF have shown relentless efforts in combatting the spread of narcotic substances within the state by conducting 150 successful operations since March last year. According to a statement from Assam police, the department has recovered approximately 6.5 kilograms of heroin, 4000 kilos of ganja, a kilo of methemphatamine and Fake Indian Currency Notes amounting Rs 50,41,000.
