Dibrugarh: Two leopard cubs, estimated to be around two months old, were rescued by the forest department from Greenwood Tea Estate in Dibrugarh on Tuesday morning.
The cubs were found by tea pluckers among thick tea bushes during their morning shift on Tuesday. Concerned about the young animals’ welfare and the absence of their mother, the estate authorities immediately contacted the forest officials from Dibrugarh Range Office.A team from the forest department responded swiftly to the call and safely took custody of the vulnerable cubs, transporting them for a thorough veterinary health examination to ensure they had not suffered any injuries or health complications.“We were informed by the assistant manager of the estate around 10.30 am about the discovery of the cubs. Our team immediately went there and rescued the cubs. The mother leopard was not seen nearby at the time. The cubs underwent a veterinary check-up. They are healthy and show no signs of injury or dehydration. We have advised close monitoring and minimal human contact to avoid stress until they are released back to their natural habitat,” a forest official said. The forest department plans to reunite the cubs with their mother by releasing them in the same area later in the evening.“Our primary goal is to ensure that the cubs are safely reunited with their mother. We are hopeful that the mother is still in the vicinity and will come back once the place is quiet,” the official added.Authorities have also urged residents and tea garden workers to stay away from the area for the next couple of days to give the mother leopard a chance to reclaim her cubs without disturbance.
