Ensure that consumers get GST reform benefits, Himanta urges traders

Guwahati: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday called on business houses, shop owners, and traders across the state to fully comply with the revised GST norms and ensure that the benefits of price reductions are passed on to consumers without exception.

Issuing a direct appeal on ‘X’ to the business community, he wrote, “Businesses, shops and traders in Assam must comply with relevant rules and ensure 100% benefit of price cuts are passed on to consumers... Under the guidance of Adarniya @narendramodi Ji let us collectively work towards ensuring the benefits of these landmark decisions reach their intended beneficiaries — India’s poor and middle class.”



Highlighting the impact of the rationalised GST rates and increased income tax exemption limits, Sarma said these measures will result in savings of over Rs 2.5 lakh crore for the people.

“These efforts, coupled with historically low inflation in Assam, will lead to the perfect trinity — fast-paced growth, higher consumption and robust savings,” the CM wrote in a post on X.

He described the rollout of the new GST regime as a transformative moment for the country. “This Navratri, people will benefit from increased savings as the rationalised GST rates have kicked in today,” he said, calling it a “watershed moment for the country.”

“What does this mean for you? Retail prices for most items — especially food and medicines — will be far cheaper from today,” Sarma added.
