Tripura, Mizoram women entrepreneurs attend boot camp in Kolkata

Agartala: A total of 31 women entrepreneurs from Tripura and Mizoram, accompanied by 30 business development specialists, govt representatives, entrepreneurs and stakeholders participated in the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) 4.0 final boot camp in Kolkata on Wednesday. The event was organised as part of the US consulate's women empowerment initiative.
Local officials confirmed that the US Consulate General collaborated with Contact Base, a non-profit organisation, to unite women entrepreneurs from both states representing various sectors including tourism, food, and crafts. The participants demonstrated their entrepreneurial capabilities and explored strategies for developing small businesses.
Kathy Giles-Diaz, Consul General of the United States in Kolkata, stated, "The AWE program and the boot camps you have participated in is a first step — a critical first step — towards ensuring that every woman who wants to start or build her own business has access to the support and tools she needs."
She further added, "From access to capital and mentorship, to training and networking, you are part of a growing number of women who are creating pathways for success. We are so honored to be part of your entrepreneurship journey, and are excited to see all you will accomplish."
State social welfare department officials reported that AWE 4.0 provided support to women in Tripura and Mizoram in areas of business development, market linkage establishment, and networking. The programme offered year-long mentoring and coaching to over 70 women entrepreneurs from both states to facilitate sustainable business growth.
The concluding two-day boot camp in Kolkata featured a panel discussion on strengthening local economies through Nano enterprise support. The discussion encompassed the contributions of govt bodies, MFIs, and business incubation programmes in supporting women-led Nano enterprises in rural regions, alongside growth strategies and policy suggestions.
