Director files plaint against ‘piracy’ of Zubeen’s last film

Guwahati: The director and producer of Zubeen Garg’s last film, ‘Roi Roi Binale’, lodged a complaint at the Cyber Police Station on Sunday against piracy after detecting pirated copies of the film on around 100 YouTube channels.Meanwhile, the judicial custody of all seven accused in Zubeen’s death case was extended by 14 more days.The director of the film, Rajesh Bhuyan, told the media, “We lodged the complaint after finding no other way. We detected hundreds of YouTube channels and several fake Facebook profiles uploading the recorded copy of the full film. We have repeatedly appealed to the people of Assam not to engage in piracy. Even Zubeen raised his voiced against piracy when he was alive. But our appeal and request did not work.”Bhuyan said the piracy of the film is a “deep personal loss” and a “betrayal of Zubeen Garg’s long-cherished dream.” Describing the film as a 19-year dream, Bhuyan said he and Zubeen long envisioned bringing it to life. “Everyone involved poured their heart and soul into this project to fulfil Zubeen’s dream,” he said. “But all that effort has been tarnished by those who chose to pirate the film and distribute it illegally,” he added.Addressing the perpetrators directly, he asked, “Is this how you honour Zubeen’s legacy? Is this your idea of a tribute — destroying a dream we’ve nurtured for nearly two decades?” Bhuyan revealed that since the film’s release, his team has been working relentlessly to track down and report pirated versions circulating online. “Our lives have been on hold since Sept 19, following Zubeen’s death. We’re doing this not just for Zubeen, but for the people,” he said.Expressing his dismay at a segment of the Assamese audience, the director said, “It’s disheartening to see some people in Assam more invested in South Indian cinema than in supporting their own. Piracy doesn’t just hurt a film — it erodes our culture. You’ve dishonoured the #JusticeForZubeen movement and tarnished his name. The damage is done, but let this be a warning—those who engage in piracy will be held accountable.”“I’m not asking anyone to stop pirating — I’m demanding it. This has pushed us all to the edge. We will not stay silent until Zubeen receives the justice he deserves,” he added.
