Dampa will get PM’s blessings if BJP candidate is elected: Rijiju
Aizawl: Union minister for parliamentary affairs and minority affairs Kiren Rijiju on Thursday assured the people of the Dampa constituency of PM Narendra Modi’s ‘special blessings’ if BJP candidate emerges victorious in the upcoming by-election.
Speaking at a public rally in Reiek village, Rijiju said, “I am here not merely to campaign for the Dampa by-election, but as an emissary of PM Modi to convey his message that Dampa will receive Modi’s blessings if the BJP candidate is elected.”
The BJP has fielded former Congress leader Lalhmingthanga for what is shaping up to be a five-cornered contest.
Rijiju, who appeared captivated by the picturesque surroundings, described Reiek as “one of the most beautiful villages in the northeast,” and urged the people to make the most of that beauty by supporting BJP. “To unlock this village’s full potential, the people of Reiek have one important task — to vote for the BJP candidate,” he said.
The Union minister revealed that he had received several representations from local groups, seeking development projects such as the laying of artificial turf, improvement of link roads and construction of the ReiekLengpui road. “Ensure that your BJP candidate wins, and all these demands will be fulfilled,” he said.
Highlighting his long political association with the region, Rijiju said, “I am now the longest-serving MP from the northeast and have been entrusted by the PM to oversee the region’s progress. If Dampa elects a BJP MLA, I will personally return to Reiek to fulfill your aspirations.”
Mizoram BJP president K Beichhua, who also addressed the gathering, underlined the developmental advantages enjoyed by BJP-represented constituencies in the state. “Siaha district, which has two BJP MLAs, has been able to secure several projects from Delhi. Today, Dampa has a similar golden opportunity,” he said. He added that with Rijiju serving as a key link between the northeast and the central govt, electing the BJP candidate would ensure that Dampa’s needs and proposals reach the corridors of power in Delhi.
