Silchar: A CRPF sub-inspector from Cachar district died after suffering a cardiac arrest while playing badminton at the force’s Vairengte camp in
Mizoram on Sunday night, officials said.
The deceased, identified as Kh Ranjit Singha, was serving with the CRPF’s 225 Battalion, headquartered in Aizawl, and was deployed at Vairengte along the Assam-Mizoram border.
According to fellow personnel, the incident occurred during a routine recreational session. Singha had just completed a game and was switching places to take a break when he suddenly collapsed on the court. He was immediately rushed to the unit’s medical officer but was declared dead shortly after.
His younger brother, Prabin Singha, confirmed that the cause of death was a heart attack. The body was later brought to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for a mandatory autopsy.
A resident of Lauthai village in Cachar district’s New Doyapur area, Singha is survived by his wife and a son studying in Class V. News of his sudden death has cast a pall of gloom over his native village, where he was remembered as a dedicated and disciplined serviceman.
