GUWAHATI: The last rites of CRPF inspector Dilip Kumar Das from
Assam, who was among those martyred in a Maoist ambush in Chhattisgarh on Saturday, were performed on Tuesday with full state honours, as condolences continued to pour in. Das was one of the two CRPF personnel from the state killed in the ambush.
Das, who hailed from Bheragaon village in Sarupeta in Barpeta district, was serving as an inspector with the 210 Battalion of CRPF in Chhattisgarh.
He is survived by his wife Pranjali Das and two daughters — Hiyamani Das (11) and Risha Das (3), father Banamali Das and mother Maina Das.
After the attack on Saturday, Das’s body was found in the early hours of Sunday and was immediately sent to the district hospital in Raipur, where the doctors declared him “dead”. The mortal remains of the martyr reached Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International airport on Tuesday morning.
From there, his mortal remains were taken to 175 CRPF camp situated at Dharapur and then to his hometown at Sarupeta. Das joined the CRPF in 2001.
A pall of gloom descended upon the area after his body was brought here. People turned up in large numbers to pay rich tributes to him before his cremation, which was done with full state honours.
Meanwhile, the last rites of CRPF jawan Bablu Rabha were performed on Monday at his village – Damra Patpara near Dudhnoi in Goalpara district. He had joined the force nine years ago and is survived by his wife and seven year old daughter.
In the Maoist attack, at least 23 security personnel were killed in the forest of the restive Bijapur district in the tribal Bastar region of Chhattisgarh.
