Cong issues showcause notice to Ahmed for ‘provocative comments’

GUWAHATI: The Assam Congress on Friday issued a showcause notice to

for his “provocative comments” regarding the Dholpur eviction drive in Darrang district.

The party has also asked its Baghbar MLA to explain accusations levelled against him of being an agent of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and being sponsored to make such comments to harm the Congress, especially with the bypolls looming large over the horizon, due to his closeness to the chief minister.

within three days. “As a lawmaker, your communally provocative comments in media, gnawing at old wounds of the past incidents of Assam agitation, when people of Assam, across communities had suffered, is totally insensitive and uncalled for. APCC views your comments as politically motivated with intent to cause damage to the Congress party just prior to the bye-elections,” the notice said.
