Aizawl: After Christmas, people in Mizoram are preparing to bid farewell to 2025 and welcome 2026 amid tight security to ensure peaceful New Year celebrations as CM Lalduhoma appeal to citizens to express gratitude for being able to usher in the New Year
Lalduhoma assured that the state govt will intensify its efforts towards development and welfare in the coming year.
On Wednesday morning, residents were seen purchasing meat, cakes, and other essentials in preparation for the celebrations. Special prayer and worship services will be held in churches at night to remember those who passed away during the year.
Community feasts are planned across villages and localities, with many hosting them on Thursday, while the majority will hold their gatherings on Friday. New Year prayer and worship services will also take place on Thursday in churches of various denominations.
As part of tourism promotion, the state tourism department and villagers of Sihphir organised a Sunset Fest at Sakawrhmuituai peak on Wednesday afternoon. A large crowd gathered to witness the year’s final sunset. Tourism minister Lalnghinglova Hmar and senior officials attended the event.
