GUWAHATI: A court here on Wednesday sent the arrested managing director of Industrial Cooperative Bank,
Assam, Subhra Jyoti Bharali, to judicial custody.
Police had arrested Bharali on Sunday on charges of criminal conspiracy, extortion and criminal intimidation against one of his employees.
Rustom Raj Brahma, officer in-charge of Panbazar police station, said police arrested him on the basis of an FIR lodged by one of the bank employees, Gokul Talkukdar. "Talukdar alleged that Bharali had forced him to take voluntary retirement and demanded a bribe of Rs 1.50 lakh against the retirement," he added.
Sources in the police said few of Bharali's accomplices are currently on the run.
