City to host play on Babri demolition

GUWAHATI: A play set against the backdrop of Babri Masjid demolition will be staged in the city as a part of the 10th Annual Brajanath Sharma Memorial Drama Festival that will start from September 11.

'Mahajagya' written by Sitanath Lahkar, a renowned playwright and former principal of

Cotton College

, will be staged by Saanko, a group of

Gauhati University

students on Sunday at

Rabindra Bhavan

.

"The play depicts the fragile communal fabric of the society. It showcases how the ruling class, irrespective of religious orientations, exploits people's sentiments for their own benefits by disturbing the peace and unity," said Lahkar.

The play will be directed by Debashis Saikia.
