After that we had started the institute on a small scale. Right now, we are offering research work and capacity building for government organizations, NGO functionaries and a host of new courses."
"Since TISS has now ventured into the northeast, we are focusing on social problems of the region, both in the rural and the urban areas, and trying to find a solution for those." she added.
There are lot of issues in the urban area itself, like the problem of displaced dwellers, mushrooming of slums in the city and adjoining areas, rise in prostitution, child labour, Mehgali said, adding "The scope of social science is wide, and with time, we have expanded our visions so that we could identify the key issues of the society. Besides, we are making the courses more practical and student friendly so that the students could identify themselves with the problems of the society and try and find a solution on their own."
