Children’s Day was celebrated across the city in various schools and NGOs with various skits, cultural programmes, songs and dances where both teachers and students participated with fervor.

GUWAHATI: Children’s Day was celebrated across the city in various schools and NGOs with various skits, cultural programmes, songs and dances where both teachers and students participated with equal fervor.
City-based Army School Narengi had organized a day-long programme for children which included a rock show by the school rock band ‘Xpression’. The band belted out some of the popular English numbers to an enthusiastic audience.

Dipankar Bhattacharya, a school teacher said, “We organized a cultural programme and a skit by teachers called ‘Durbhagyashali Kaun’. This apart, students paid tribute to late Bhupen Hazarika and sang some of his ever popular songs.” He added, “There was also a lucky draw called ‘Lucky One’ in which children seemed to have a fun time.”
Maharshi Vidyamandir, Barsajai too organized a fun-filled programme for students. Amrita Das, a student of Maharshi Vidyamandir said, “We had organized a special tribute for Bhupen Hazarika after which there was a traditional puja followed by distribution of sweets and chocolates. It was a fun day for children.”
The tiny tots too were seen enjoying the day in various pre-schools of the city.
Chandrani Dey, a teacher of Euro Kids, Lachit Nagar said, “We had organized a fancy dress competition. It was fun for us teachers too to see the little ones turn up as fairies, Gandhi ji, Nehru ji and Kanaklata.”
A city-based NGO, Snehalaya too organized programmes on this occasion. Father Uttam, member of Snehalaya said, “Various programmes had been organized at the Snehalaya centres across the city. The Paltan Bazaar centre had a special cultural programme while the Dhirenpara centre, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan (SSA) had organized an art competition. The Noonmati centre had organized a special film show for children.” "Children at our Beltola centre would be going for a special programme at Maligaon. This time, we are not organizing anything on a large scale as most of the children would be going to their respective schools for participating."
