Cachar cops seize heroin worth Rs 2.3 crore, 2 held
Silchar: Cachar police on Wednesday seized heroin worth about Rs 2.3 crore and arrested two men near the Ramnagar Bypass on the outskirts of Silchar.Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a police team intercepted an SUV coming from neighbouring Mizoram. During a search, officers recovered 39 soap cases containing 456 grams of heroin concealed inside the vehicle’s chassis.The arrested men were identified as Fahim Ahmed Barbhuiya (25) and Hanif Ahmed Laskar (31), both residents under Silchar police station limits.Additional SP (Crime) Rajat Kumar Pal said that Laskar has prior involvement in similar offences and will be interrogated further to establish forward and backward linkages of the drug network.Police suspect the consignment was being transported from Mizoram for distribution in the Barak Valley and beyond. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.Officials said the district police will continue its intensified drive against narcotics to dismantle trafficking networks operating in the region.
