KOKRAJHAR: The ruling Bodoland People's Front (BPF) on Friday announced its student wing, Bodoland Students' Union (BSU), to counter the powerful All Bodo Students' Union (Absu) The new students' body is an all-community inclusive students' organization.
The Absu played a crucial role in the signing of the peace accord in 2001 that saw Bodo Liberation Tiger (BLT), led by Hagrama Mohilary, which laid the ground for political transformation of the militant to political outfit BPF.

The two have, however, parted ways in subsequent years.
The formal announcement of the formation of new students' body was made at its first convention at Debargaon near Bodoland University by BPF president and BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary on Friday. The symbol of the BSU is likely to be a sign of victory on the Bodoland map as majority of the participants have supported the victory sign.
Swgwmsar Basumatary of Kokrajhar is the first president of BSU, while Bonjit Manjil Basumatary of Bijni is the general secretary. The vice-presidents of the students' body are Prabish Bayon (Tamulpur), Biswajit Basumatary (Gossaigaon), Mohot Chandra Boro (Chirang), Reslina Aya Begam (Mushalpur) and Kamar Sharma (Udalguri). The secretaries are Gulson Basumatary (Tamulpur), Kwrwmdao Brahma (Kokrajhar), Rajesh Sinha (Gossaigaon), Bobita Rani Goyary (Udalguri) and Amalesh Chandra Ray (Salbari).
The new students' union would be constituted in four tiers in line with the BPF.
