Guwahati: In a sensational murder in Assam, a man allegedly killed his wife and four-year-old son at a private lodge in Dispur and went missing on Saturday night. Police are in search of the accused, Bapon Mazumdar.
Deputy commissioner of police (East) Hemanta Kumar Das said the deceased woman and her son were found inside room number 2 of Rajdhani lodge. The room was locked from outside. Police said Mazumdar checked into the lodge with a fake identity on Saturday morning. He identified himself as Ikbal Bahar Laskar.
"On Saturday evening, the lodge staff received a call from Silchar police seeking information about the whereabouts of Mazumdar. Police informed a member of the lodge that he is a wanted criminal. When a staff member went to check his room, it was found locked from outside," the DCP said.
Mazumdar has a criminal past. He was out of jail on bail. A police source said he was arrested on charges of kidnapping a student in Silchar recently. He was also an accused in a case under Arms Act.
Police said the lodge received a second phone call on Saturday evening. "This time, a person named Kamrul Islam Mazumdar identified himself as Bapon's family member and informed the lodge staff that the latter had killed his wife and son," Das added.
