Leader of the IT and media department of the state BJP, Lalthanpuia, said Vanlalhmuaka, for the first time, had told mediapersons in an interview on Saturday that the BJP would contest all the seats in the coming election to the 40-member House .

Political analysts said if the BJP contests all the assembly seats in the coming polls, it would hurt the Congress most, especially in the three autonomous district council areas as the minority-dominated areas were traditionally the stronghold of the grand old party.

The Congress may also face stiff challenges from the BJP in some of assembly seats along the Bangladesh, Tripura and Assam borders like Mamit, Kolasib and Lunglei districts though there are no autonomous district councils, the analysts said.

Though the ruling MNF is a constituent of both the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) with the party's Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members giving issue-based support to the NDA in Parliament, there has been no alliance with the saffron party in state politics. The analysts said it's too early to predict if the BJP will go for any pre or post-poll tie-up with MNF.

The lone BJP legislator, Dr BD Chakma, the first BJP nominee to be elected in the state legislature, also sits in the opposition bench in the assembly.

Even as the MNF is a part of the NDA and NEDA in national politics and regional politics in the northeast, the BJP remained a political pariah in the Christian-dominated state of Mizoram. Reports of alleged attacks on Christian missionaries, including priests, in other parts of the country continued to haunt the state unit and failed to make major inroads in the state, except in minority areas.
