GUWAHATI: The BJP on Saturday said it will announce the remaining names of candidates for the coming assembly polls other than the six it has already made public by February 25.
The six nominees already in fray are BJP president Ranjit Dutta for Behali constituency, leader of BJP legislative party Mission Ranjan Das for Karimganj North constituency, Parimal Suklavaidya for Dholai constituency, Prasanta Phukan for Dibrugarh constituency, Rameshwar Teli for Duliajan constituency and Sushil Dutta for Lumding constituency.
All of them are incumbent legislators.
BJP leaders said the names of other candidates will be announced soon with the central election committee of the party meeting shortly for the purpose. "It is most likely that the names of candidates will be finalized within February 25. A panel has prepared the list and the next election meeting will discuss on finalization of names and constituencies soon," said BJP spokesperson Pradip Thakuria.
BJP president Ranjit Dutta, leader of BJP legislative party Mission Ranjan Das, BJP's northeast organizational secretary P Chandrasekhar and one general secretary from the state will be present during the next election committee meeting for finalizing the names of candidates. Although BJP has said it would contest in all 126 assembly constituencies, a clear picture would emerge at the next election committee meeting in New Delhi. Party in charge of Assam Vijay Goel on Friday said the saffron party would put its strength in all assembly constituencies.
