BJP slams atrocities on Hindus in B’desh

Guwahati: BJP state president Dilip Saikia on Thursday, while condemning the atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh, urged Muhammad Yunus govt to ensure their safety and security in the neighbouring country.

Meanwhile, police arrested a Muslim cleric from Darrang district for allegedly supporting the killing of Hindus in Bangladesh.


Saikia told the media, “The atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh must end immediately. Killing Hindus in the neighbouring country is condemnable. We want to warn the Bangladesh govt to ensure the safety and security of all religious minorities, including Hindus and Sikhs. Otherwise, they will have to take accountability on the world platform.”

A Muslim cleric from Assam’s Darrang district was arrested for allegedly supporting the killing of Dipu Chandra Das in Bangladesh. The accused was identified as Bilal Ali. He is the second person arrested for supporting the lynching of Das.

A youth from Rangia, Assam, was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly posting a controversial video on social media that supported the killing of the youth in Bangladesh. The accused was identified as Mohammad Shaif Akhtar Ali. The police detained the youth for questioning. Later, on examination of the video, the youth was arrested. Police have urged the public to exercise restraint and refrain from sharing or promoting content that could disturb communal harmony.
