‘Bharat Bodh’ to explore India’s cultural heritage
Guwahati: ‘Bharat Bodh' — a three day conclave aimed at exploring and celebrating India's rich cultural and historical and intellectual heritage through conferences, performances and exhibitions — commenced in the city on Friday.It is an academic and cultural conclave being held at Srimanta Shankardeva Kalashetra. The event will end on Sunday. Envisioned by organisations ‘Nishreyas' and ‘Ishan Bodh', the event aims to celebrate and explore the multifaceted dimensions of India's cultural heritage.The conclave will bring together experts from eminent educational institutions, including Jawaharlal Nehru University, B Borooah college, Lakhimpur Telahi Kamalabari college, and academic organisations, including Indian Council of Social Science Research, Indian Council of Philosophical Research, Jammu & Kashmir study circle, New Delhi and Indian knowledge system (IKS) centre. Special focus will be put on the northeast, highlighting its heritage and contributions to the country's broader cultural variety. The event will feature brainstorming sessions, cultural performances and exhibitions.The conclave was inaugurated by governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya. Speaking on the occasion, he highlighted India's timeless legacy as the land of knowledge. ‘'India's knowledge tradition has nurtured the entire world. When the rest of the world wandered is ignorance, India's sages and saints spread the highest form of wisdom, shaping humanity with refined values'', he remarked.He urged the delegates and participants to view India through an indigenous lens, and honour and explore the intricate tapestry of India's cultural heritage through an engaging blend of intellectual discussions, cultural performances and exhibitions.Veenu Pant, head of the history department at Sikkim University told TOI, "Our basic theme is to make Indian's aware of their identity, as the most important thing for a citizen is to know their country and feel proud for their identity. We will delve into Indian art, culture, heritage, history and many more in this conclave".Some of the key agendas the conclave includes, Tracing the evolution of India's cultural heritage across ancient, medieval, and modern periods, Exploring India's cultural contributions to world civilization and cross-cultural exchanges, Examining the role of ancient literature in shaping and preserving India's cultural memory etc.These agendas will be articulated under the heads: Philosophy and ritual, history and culture, art and culture, language and linguistics of North-eastern region and maritime history of India. Overall the Experts will delve into the region's social, economic and political aspects, exploring its distinct cultural indicators, agriculture, horticulture and animal husbandry practices.
