Bhalla: Over 7k illegal arms recovered so far in Manipur

Imphal: Manipur governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, in his address to the state assembly on Thursday, said the maintenance of law and order remained the foremost priority of the govt, with coordinated efforts by the Centre and the state yielding steady progress towards peace and stability.

He highlighted that security forces have so far recovered 7,313 arms, 83,512 rounds of ammunition and 5,195 explosives. He noted the voluntary surrender of 1,078 arms in early 2025 reflected growing public trust in the peace process. Additionally, 549 offensive bunkers across hill and valley areas have been dismantled, contributing to the reduction of violence, he said.


Addressing the issue of extortion, the governor said state and district-level anti-extortion units, along with a 24x7 helpline, have been set up, leading to over 924 arrests.

On the financial front, Bhalla said Manipur’s finances are on the path to recovery. “The state’s own resources increased from Rs 1,443 crore in 2023-24 to Rs 2,087 crore in 2024-25. As of Oct 2025, state resource collection stood at Rs 1,254 crore compared to Rs 608 crore in Oct 2024,” he said.
