Guwahati: Assamese students, who returned to Ukraine to complete their medical education, said they will not evacuate the war-torn nation despite an advisory issued to the Indian nationals by the Indian embassy in Kyiv to leave Ukraine at the earliest.
Guardians, too, have asked their children to hold on till the end. They do not want to be blamed for ruining the careers of their children as the Indian government failed to come up with a comprehensive policy to accommodate them in colleges in the country.
Information gathered from Indian students in Ukraine divulged that 15 students returned from the northeast since September as the new academic session started from October. Mostly senior students, pursuing medicine, rushed to Ukraine to save their careers.
“The Indian embassy in Kyiv issued an advisory for us to leave Ukraine on October 19. If the situation in western Ukraine gets bad, then only we may think about it,” Nikita, an Assamese student in western Ukraine, told TOI on Saturday.
