GUWAHATI: Police on Monday arrested two persons allegedly involved in beating to death a labourer of Emami Limited’s
Assam plant
at Pacharia in Kamrup district.

Sanatan Deka
(38), had started selling vegetables after his factory temporarily shut down due to the lockdown on Friday.
On Friday, he was carrying vegetables he had grown himself to the market on his bicycle when a scooty hit him at
Manahkuchi village
. “Two persons riding the two-wheeler — Jalil Ali and
Khabir Ali
— had an altercation with Sanatan and soon three more youths joined them and together they beat him up. Later, people rushed him to the hospital where he died on Saturday,” police said.
The five alleged culprits named in the FIR lodged by Sanatan’s father, Nagen, are

, Eyusuf Uddin Ahmed , Khabir Ali, Jalil Ali and Firjahan Ali. “Sanatan was working as a labourer at the Emami plant at Pacharia. But after the lockdown, the factory was closed and he started selling vegetables,” Sanatan’s brother, Haragobinda, said.
Assam additional DG (Law and Order) GP Singh tweeted, “The two prime accused of the Sanatan Deka murder case of Hajo (Kamrup-1) Faizur Hoque @ Dali 2) Eyusuf Uddin Ahmed have been apprehended in connection with Hajo PS case no. 480/2020 u/s 120(B)/302 IPC.” Deka hialed from Tetelia village in Hajo constituency near Guwahati.
Local BJP legislator (Hajo)
Suman Haripriya said, “Very unfortunate. He was the sole bread earner of his family. He was working with Emami and started selling vegetables which he himself grew after the factory shut down because of the lockdown. I am requesting the chief minister to rehabilitate Deka’s wife with a government job.”
The chief minister’s office said the CM has ordered an immediate ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh to Deka’s family.
