Assam to hold first magic festival to revitalise lost traditions of Mayong

As Assam prepares to host its first-ever magic-focused tourism festival, get ready to be mesmerised by an egg flying, a torn bamboo being joined or a handful of rice transforming into flattened rice in the blink of an eye. The town of Mayong in Morigaon is all set to host the "Mayong Indrajal Magic Festival", scheduled for August 18. As many as 101 magicians of Mayong, including some who have been practising the art for several decades, will participate in the festival and showcase traditional and new-age magic tricks to the visitors.

The festival is set to feature a vibrant day-long programme, beginning with a grand cultural procession highlighting Mayong's age-old magical traditions, local arts and unique cultural elements. Addressing a press conference on Sunday, Morigaon DC Devashish Sharma said the festival, which will be held every year, is set to preserve and promote Mayong's heritage and provide a new avenue for tourism. Assam's renowned magician "Jadu Samrat" Bikram will also perform at the festival.
