DIBRUGARH:
Tea gardens in upper Assam
have been hit by disruption of natural gas by Oil India Limited (OIL) due to continuous blockades and agitations at their wells by locals following the May 27 Baghjan blowout.
The Assam Branch Indian Tea Association on Friday said around 30
tea gardens
have been affected by the supply crisis. All the affected tea gardens are situated in Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts. With the crisis showing no signs of improvement, the body has written a letter to state industries and commerce minster Chandra Mohan Patowary seeking his intervention to resolve the issue.
This comes a day after OIL’s resident chief executive of Tinsukia district Dilip Kumar Das had written to deputy commissioner Bhaskar Pegu about the intermittent protests by various organisations and pressure groups which have been affecting OIL’s operations and causing disruption in supply to tea gardens.
