Aizawl: In a decisive operation along the Mizoram-Myanmar border, Assam Rifles personnel seized a US-made 5.56 mm M4A1 Carbine, a magazine, and a cache of live ammunition from a residence in Zokhawthar, Champhai district. Acting on precise intelligence, the paramilitary force, in collaboration with Champhai district police, launched the operation early Sunday morning, according to a statement released Monday.
The operation, targeting illegal arms possession, resulted in the recovery of a 5.56mm M4A1 carbine equipped with a Red Dot Sight, 19 rounds of 5.56mm NATO ammunition, and 100 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition. The operation also led to the arrest of Robert Vanlalliana, 40, a local resident and former vice-president of Chin National Defence Force (CNDF), a militia group opposing Myanmar's military junta.
The seized arms and ammunition, along with Vanlalliana, have been handed over to Zokhawthar police for further investigation and legal proceedings.
