Assam: Rhino horn smuggler arrested in Hojai

Forest staff of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve arrested a person from Hojai on Sunday for his alleged involvement in rhino horn smuggling in the park.

JORHAT: Forest staff of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve arrested a person from Hojai on Sunday for his alleged involvement in rhino horn smuggling in the park.
The arrested person has been identified as Md Rahimuddin of Nilbagan area in Hojai district. Two cases of illegal rhino horn trade were registered against Rahimuddin.
DFO of Eastern Assam Wildlife Division, Kaziranga, Ramesh Kumar Gogoi, said, “Based on some inputs, forest staff launched an operation and arrested the rhino horn smuggler from Nilbagan.

Earlier, he was arrested for similar offence.” With this, the total number of rhino horn smugglers arrested by Kaziranga forest staff has gone up to 23 till date. On July 3, two forest guards were arrested for the same offence in the park’s Bagori forest range. A broken piece of rhino horn was also found on them.
