Assam Public Service Commission scam: 3 sent to 7-day police remand

GUWAHATI: The special judges' court here on Monday sent three persons - a deputy superintendent of police (DSP), an advocate and a trader - to seven-day police remand in conection with the cash-for-job scam in the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC).


While Kabita Das, the DSP, is accused of

forging

the APSC selection process, Sailen Sarma Barua (advocate) and Surajit Chaudhury (trader) acted as middlemen in the racket. Sources in state BJP said Barua is the vice-president of the party''

"After forensic tests pointed out anomalies in Das's answer scripts, she wanted to become an approver. Later, she changed her mind and was trying to escape from the country. So, police arrested her," a source said. He added that Choudhury, who is the husband of arrested ACS officer Pallavi Sharma, and Baruah were allegedly trying to derail the investigation by taking advantage of their close connections with some high-profile politicians. ) Surjeet Singh Panesar, who is heading the probe, said, "One of the arrested, Pallavi Sharma, has moved court praying for bail. The court has fixed July 25 for hearing the case." Sharma, daughter of ruling BJP MP from
