Assam Police search Khera’s Delhi home
Guwahati: An Assam Police team on Tuesday conducted a search at the residence of Congress leader Pawan Khera in Delhi in connection with a case filed by CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife Riniki Bhuyan Sharma.
The police team also sought Khera for questioning, but did not find him at the residence.
Riniki lodged the FIR against Khera on Sunday at midnight, hours after the Congress leader accused Riniki of holding passports of UAE, Egypt and Antigua and Barbuda. He also accused the Sarma family of having a limited liability company in the US.
The case has been registered at the Crime Branch Police Station, Guwahati, under several relevant charges, including forgery under BNS, 2023.
The police team, led by DCP (Crime) Debajit Nath, formally informed the Delhi police upon arrival, following which a local police team assisted the Assam police team.
“Khera was not found at his residence. We will trace him wherever he is,” Nath told the media.
He said a search was carried out and electronic devices were seized. “Some incriminating material was found, but its details cannot be disclosed at this stage,” he added.
After the search at Khera’s residence in Delhi on Tuesday, CM Sarma claimed that Khera “ran away” to Hyderabad. “Khera had dared the Assam police to arrest him, but I have come to know through the media that the police went to his residence in Delhi, but he ran away to Hyderabad. The law will take its own course,” he added.
Hailing the competence of Assam Police, Sarma on Tuesday said they (Assam Police) will find Khera even from “paatal” to end this game of “Luka-chuppi”.
“First, why did you bring a fake document? Who did you give this document to? I suspect that Rahul Gandhi gave this document to them. So this case will reach even Rahul Gandhi,” he added.
The Sarma family denied the allegations, saying that the passports, which were displayed by the Congress leader in his press conference, were “AI-generated fake”.
