Guwahati: Despite heavy deployment of forces for the upcoming state election, a fresh Union home ministry alert has tightened security in Assam.
On Tuesday, the National Investigative Agency (NIA) reportedly received a call from Nigeria that said a group of six terrorists, led by former Pakistani soldier Mohammed Khurshid Alam, entered India on February 23 through Pathankot on the Punjab-Pakistan border and would try to sneak into Assam, Delhi and Punjab.

The Union home ministry issued an alert on Wednesday.
Top sources in Assam Police said, "According to the alert, the terrorists will try and hit hotels and hospitals. Though the authenticity of the call is still to be verified, security forces have been asked to err on the side of caution."
Meanwhile, the Election Commission (EC) has directed state authorities to review vulnerable locations and prepare a detailed security plan for the election. At least 200 companies of central armed police forces, including 80 companies of CRPF, 40 of BSF, 30 companies of CISF and SSB each, and 20 companies of ITBP have been moved into Assam for the polls. Usually, there are 100 personnel in a company.
"After the Pathankot incident, we can't take any chances, especially as Assam is facing an important election," the sources added.
