Assam lifts night curfew and weekend lockdown

GUWAHATI: The Assam government on Friday withdrew the daily night curfew from 9pm and weekend lockdowns as it implemented the Centre’s Unlock 4.0 guidelines after a delay of four days.

It also issued clear instructions to citizens to follow

Covid-19 protocol

or else face penalty and prosecution.

“Weekend lockdown and night curfew have been lifted. However, please adhere to all the Covid-19 protocols to keep yourself and others around you safe,” state chief secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna announced in his tweet on Friday afternoon. Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said an SOP is being prepared to implement an order by

Gauhati High Court

to strictly enforce Covid-19 protocol. Chief Justice Ajai Lamba and Justice Manish Choudhary, while hearing a PIL on Thursday, directed police to be proactive on the streets and check whether the May 8 order issued by the state health department on wearing of face masks and maintaining social distance in public places are being maintained or not. The court also directed the state authorities to slap fines on violators.
