GUWAHATI: Two police personnel, including officer-in-charge (OC) of Kampur police station in central Assam's Nagaon district, were drowned in flood waters on Sunday night.
Circle officer, Kampur, Sujata Gogoi said that constable Rajib Bordoloi's body was recovered during wee hours of Monday, while OC Samujjal Kakati's body was retrieved by state disaster response force at around 8.30am.
"The police team went out on a rescue operation. The incident occurred barely 1 km away from the police station as the entire surrounding was heavily flooded," said Gogoi.
A police personnel said that their team of three went to a nearby village on an operation.
"Near a culvert, constable Bordoloi was washed away and when the OC went to rescue him, he was also drowned," said the officer.
Kakati hails from Changsari in Kamrup district, whereas Bordoloi was a resident of Nagaon.
Kampur area is witnessing unprecedented floods as river Kapili was flowing much above the danger level in the last couple of days. Over 42 lakh people are marooned by the Assam floods.
