Assam eyes Shakira concert after Post Malone success
Dibrugarh: Assam Tourism Development Corporation Ltd (ATDCL) chairman Rituparna Baruah on Sunday said the state govt is planning to host international pop star Shakira in Dibrugarh as part of its ambitious push to popularise concert tourism in Assam.
Speaking about the govt’s concert tourism initiative, Baruah revealed that following the successful hosting of American rapper Post Malone’s concert in Guwahati in Dec last year, the tourism department is now setting its sights on bringing the Grammy Award-winning Colombian artist Shakira to Dibrugarh, the state’s emerging second capital.

“We are actively exploring the possibility of roping in Shakira for our next event in Dibrugarh. This will not only put Dibrugarh on the international entertainment map but also provide a massive fillip to our local hospitality and transport sectors. Plans are underway to host the event at the Multi-Disciplinary Sports Complex stadium in Dibrugarh, which is being upgraded to accommodate 35,000 spectators,” Baruah stated.
The ATDCL chairman said the Assam govt had adopted the Policy on Concert Tourism in 2025 specifically to popularise the emerging segment of the tourism industry. The policy framework is designed to position Assam as a preferred destination for international music events and cultural performances, thereby attracting both domestic and international visitors.
“We have seen how neighbouring states like Meghalaya has been successfully attracting music lovers from across the globe by hosting international artists and bands. Assam is now ready to replicate that success and scale it even further,” Baruah added.
The Post Malone concert in Guwahati, held on Dec 8, 2025 attracted thousands of music enthusiasts from across the northeast, demonstrating the region’s appetite for international music events and the economic potential of concert tourism.
