Assam CM requests PM to land on Moran emergency NH strip during Feb 14 visit

Guwahati: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said a request has been sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to allow his aircraft to land on the newly built emergency landing strip along NH-127 in Dibrugarh district during his visit to the state on Feb 14.

“We have this special thought in mind. We have sent him this request,” Sarma said.


The 4.2-km facility at Moran is the northeast’s first highway-based emergency landing strip and is set to become operational in Feb. Designed for dual military and civilian use, it can accommodate advanced fighter jets such as the Rafale and Su-30MKI, giving the Indian Air Force greater operational flexibility in the strategically sensitive region.

Officials said the strip will be used for emergency landings, disaster management operations, and defence exercises, particularly during natural calamities or security exigencies. Its location in upper Assam is considered crucial due to its proximity to international borders with China and Myanmar.
