GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has called the "Bharat Jodo Yatra" of Congress launched by Rahul Gandhi from Kanyakumari on Wednesday the "comedy of the century".

Sarma, a former Congressman, said that Rahul should have launched his Bharat Jodo Yatra in Pakistan and not in India.

“Isn’t this a comedy. You (Congress) divided the country in 1947 and now you want Bharat jodo and you are trying to do this where the country is united. Rahul Gandhi should go to Pakistan for 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' if they want unification," Sarma said.

Sarma also tweeted, "The Bharat Jodo Yatra is a Comedy of the Century! The Bharat that we live in today is resilient, robust & united. The only time India was divided was in 1947 because Congress agreed for it. Rahul Gandhi ji should go to Pakistan for 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' if they want unification".

Sarma also took a dig at Jairam Ramesh who called him "boyish" for his remarks.

"First, tell me who Jairam Ramesh is? Is he someone who lives in Assam? Who is he? I have no idea. Who will remember the name of Congress leaders? I was never very close to any man with such a name when I was in Congress. I don't even know who he is," Sarma said as he asked journalists not to ask him anymore about someone who he does not know.
